Transport from Luxor

I%26#39;m due to stay in October, and I%26#39;m interested in finding out how easy it will be to get around. I understand that there%26#39;s a monorail - is it any good? Someone in our party struggles to walk too far. How do people rate the bus system, or will we end up just taking taxi%26#39;s??

Thanks for any help.

The monorail doesn%26#39;t go to Luxor. It%26#39;s on the other side of the strip and starts at MGM Grand and ends at Sahara with several stops in between. You can go to Vegas.com and there is info about the monorail. There is a free tram that will take you from Mandalay Bay to Luxor and then Excalibur. We like the monorail and use it often but a lot of people prefer the bus which I%26#39;m not really crazy about but there are bus stops all up and down the strip. There is also the trolley that stops at pretty much every hotel and takes forever. We did it once and will never do it again. The only drawback I see about the monorail is that the stations are usually at the back of the casino and quite a hike so if someone is your party has problems walking long distances, you probably would be better off with a cab or maybe the bus.

Thanks txmini.

I thought I was going to be left without any responses after my first post, you have restored my faith !!

It sounds like we will be relying on cabs for most the journeys. Would $20 be a good estimate for the average ride down the strip? Are there special lanes for cabs in Vegas, or do most journeys take forever?

I like to stay at Mandalay Bay so I end up taking cabs in the evening a lot. $20 should cover most trips. The buses are terrible cattle cars and aren%26#39;t worth the aggravation.

Are you set on staying at Luxor? Why not pick a different hotel with a better location or at least closer to the places you%26#39;ll be traveling to? Luxor is way down there on the strip, and it%26#39;s a hike just to get to the front door of that place.

If someone has mobility problems the monorail is not a good choice. Actually, I think it is a poor choice for anyone. I used it when it was free and only connected Bally%26#39;s and MGM. The hike to the station at Bally%26#39;s and the hike from the MGM station to the strip was ridiculous. I would have been better off just walking (which is what I did to get back). There is the Duece but it is often slow and crowded.

Did you ever think of getting a wheelchair or scooter for a person who struggles to walk? Once you are in the hotel you may still be faced with a long walk to a restaurant, show or attraction. And the most of the hotels are far apart so even if you take a cab to one hotel you are going to have to walk to another unless you stay at that one hotel.
