Laughlin or Vegas

Okay, hoping for some insight from this board. I%26#39;ve been to Vegas numerous times over the years, getting tired of the Strip, higher prices (not like it was years ago), etc. Looking to do some golfing, gambling, etc. The wife wants to sit by a pool, do some spa%26#39;s etc. while I%26#39;m out golfing, etc.

We%26#39;re in our 40%26#39;s and like things a bit slower, less crowded, that is why Laughlin is looking more appealing. Also, looking forward to exploring around the area as well.

Can anyone give me some basic arguments on why I should point the car to Laughlin versus Vegas after our plane lands? Best place to stay in Laughlin? Do I have to pay $8 for a beer(like Vegas) if I just want to sit at a bar?

Thanks for any advice, found a lot of good things on the postings already and leaning towards Laughlin, just need a nudge I guess...

Laughlin or Vegas

Hi

As we travel thousands of miles to get there we always go to both. We like both places for different reasons. Vegas for the show%26#39;s and just sightseeing but love the river and the slower pace of Laughlin. We have stayed at the Golden Nugget 3 times and will most probably choose that hotel again. The pool area is not very big but has never been crowded when we have been. It also has padded loungers for comfort. You also have a river view from there. Can%26#39;t remember the drink prices but I know they were not expensive.

Laughlin or Vegas

last April we drove to Vegas, planned on staying for a week. Laughlin didn%26#39;t even figure into our plans. after 2 days of rude pushy people and not even being able to walk down the sidewalk in peace, and after a $33 breakfast that was terrible we checked out and headed to Laughlin. We stayed at the Belle and although the room was older it the most comfortable bed we had our whole trip. The people were all so pleasant and polite. we had so much fun. met people from all over and had a blast playing the tables. The prices were so good, I think our room was $25 a night and breakfast was $2.99, all the meals we had were great. we are driving back this spring and will not even slow down going through Vegas. we plan on spending a week in Laughlin and doing lots of trips including London Bridge and the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. I can%26#39;t say for sure but the only drink we bought when we were there was a couple coronas and I think they were a total of $5

the weather was perfect, the people fantastic, the gambling was fun, the pools at the belle were fine, the food was good, why would want to go anywhere else.

thought I would add as my name is missleading. we are in our 40,s and most of the people we meant were our age and younger. Laughlin has a rep for being the geriatric place to go bu that is not true.

You will most likely enjoy Laughlin. I%26#39;m right in your age bracket, and just don%26#39;t get Vegas any more. Too expensive, crowded and fake. Laughlin is somewhat sleepy, but you can gamble cheaply, get good food almost everywhere on the cheap, and not feel like an old fart. There will be some old people, as well as middle aged. Some younger fold will also be around. For your wife%26#39;s sake I%26#39;d recommend the Golden Nugget for the pool area. It is also my favorite hotel in Laughlin, and we%26#39;ve been to all but one. It has great and palm trees, with a river view. I stay there but walk over to the Pioneer for cheap and fun Blackjack. No, drinks are super cheap compared to Vegas. Take a drive out to Oatman for a kick. Old-west cowboy town with donkeys cruising all around.

As a longtime Laughlin vacationer from Wisconsin and now a 8 year Laughlin resident, I believe there isn%26#39;t any doubt as to where to go. Other than big name shows, I can not think of a single catagory where I would rate Vegas ahead of Laughlin as a vacation destinition.

Where in Wisconsin are you from stonesrock?

Vegas would be better for a 20-somethings batchelor party without a doubt. That%26#39;s about it.

Im lil older been VEGAS alot was just there as a matter a fact,im getting sick of being blackjacked for every lil thing my opinion they want foreign over us dont worry they will come a beggin just like disneylands doing right now.Laughlin is what vegas use to be affordable, nice, not crowded i stay at the gold nugget, going with a few close freinds in febuary, watch the radar coppers especialy near serchlight nevada.Great gambling plus lot things to see near lauglin.A relaxing nice place plenty to do ,cheap eats vegas blows, any day of the week ill take laughlin.Air tran otta milwaukee is your best bet ,room and flight , car 400 bucks sunday tru thursday at the nugett thats for two people.

We usually spend a few days in each. My wife and I are in our 30%26#39;s and love both LV and Laughlin for different reasons.

As far as the Strip we have made week long trips to LV and never hit it once.

great answer wavy both places are great but for different reasons we are headed down to laughlin for superbowl...and cant wait to get there!
