Hello, and Welcome to the Downtown Activities Side of MEGA 2009 ----------
This is an open invitation for one and all to join us during the week of May 27th through June 3rd in our Downtown Activities.
Downtowners will be hosting several events that hopefully will give you a chance to get to know some of your fellow ';lovers of Vegas'; before the official Mega M%26amp;G on June 2nd. I think this is a huge advantage in getting to meet lots of people in small groups, so you won%26#39;t have so many names to remember (and faces) at the Big MEGA Event.... which is, tentatively being viewed as being held at the Golden Nugget in Downtown Las Vegas, starting at approximately 6 to 9 pm that evening.
PLEASE NOTE: This says tentative. At this point, nothing is written in stone, but... there is a foundation of events which are planned at this point, but which may change as the plans and details of the MEGA progress. One thing you can be sure of, though. You will have the time of your life at this/these events! Time to let your hair down, and quit worrying, if only for a few days, about where our economy is heading! In my case... ';this economy'; is headed for Las Vegas... in something like 105 days. I sure hope you will consider joining us. For anyone thinking about staying downtown, food and gambling are both less expensive, and its a short walk (cross the street) to another casino. You are out of one and into another in less than a minute. Places like Binions Coffee shop offer up specials like their Breakfast special: $1.99 for 2 eggs, hashbrowns, toast and jelly. There are many others.
Please look for ';us'; Downtown, and be sure to walk up and say ';Hi there... I%26#39;m your new best friend... '; :-) We being the Golden Girls. There are four of us... Myself (supershe), Benny (Benezett), Becky (vegas varment) and Marge (orangectny). We are normally wearing GOLD HATS, so you can%26#39;t miss us! LOL
At this point, we know the FSE coupon books/sheets are discontinued as of March 31, 2009. This is a real downer for us, but... I have heard that they will be giving coupons out, but you will have to print them yourselves, so I am assuming that means going to their website, and printing off coupons that you want there. We will keep you informed here on the Downtown Activities Thread whats going on there, and any other departments.
For your viewing pleasure, and to help you get to know your Fellow TA ers who enjoyed MEGA 1, here is the link to the PHOTO GALLERY from that Mega.

We have an idea for a couple of new activities this MEGA and would love to hear your comments/ideas about these, and maybe we will incorporate one or more of them into our events Downtown. If you have an idea for a smashing new thing to do, please let us know. At this point, plans can be changed or added.
1) A TA Slushy Street Party.... to be held outdoors under the Canopy between Mermaids and The Bayou... A great location for enjoying slushies, and visiting with old and new friends. There are outdoor bars located close, and of course, those two places mentioned are KNOWN for their slushies. Best time would probably be an afternoon: I think Pookaloki should host this one, (please please??) if we do this. Probably about 2 hours, but people can come and go! Its outside, and lots of fun to be had by nearby casinos and outdoor kiosks.
2) A Casino crawl... where we would go as a group, from casino to casino.... ';hopping'; as it were, from one to another, staying at each maybe .. an hour? or a half hour? Anyone winning would of course, remain where they are, and re-join us later, or, not. Maybe we could all eat together at the end of this crawl, and maybe we would only be able to do one side of Downtown at this Mega. Four or five casinos would probably be plenty. Or we could pick and choose... Lets talk about it here on this thread, so we can see if there is any interest in either of these ideas, or... maybe someone has a better one.
Having said that, let%26#39;s look at our tentative plans:
Friday May 29th: A slammin%26#39; ';midnight ';Slots'; session, starting at 11 pm and continuing until ?? Lets try Golden Nugget this time!
Saturday May 30th: MSS Champagne Brunch at 11:30 am. We are hoping there will be coupons available for a 2-4-1. Cost without coupon is $10.99 which includes all the champagne or Mimosas you wanna drink, so still a great bargain!
Another ';midnight slots'; session, Four Queens OK?? 11 pm till ???
Sunday May 31st: Fremont Champagne Brunch at 12 Noon Paradise Buffet. Again, cost without coupon is $10.99 which includes all the champagne or Mimosas you wanna drink! If we have 2-4-1 coupons, with tax, its about $6 each. WOW
Sunday Evening Dinner (5/31): We are thinking TWO places for this event:
Hugo%26#39;s Downtown, located at Four Queens. Tentative time set at 8 pm since I have to say something but this will be up to, hopefully Gabby Gambler (Another please, please??)who will host this event, since she plans for sure to attend.
The FLAME (formerly Robertas) at El Cortez, also approximate 8 pm. This is fast becoming a traditional stop for our MEGA events. The value cannot be overestimated, with the 50% off up to $50 purchase coupon in both the ACG and MRA (formerly POV). This coupon is worth $25 alone on the cost of your food. If your ticket says $46, your cost will be $23, plus of course, taxes and gratuities. They will include the gratuity on our meals, with a group of 8 or larger. We will make reservations for one, two or three tables of eight, depending upon how many people want to go here. Here%26#39;s a link to their menu: www.elcortezhotelcasino.com/ec_restaurants/
Monday June1st: Leaving this open for ';other plans'; at this point.
Tuesday June 2nd
TENTATIVE at this point: GOLDEN NUGGET%26#39;S Rush Bar: 6 pm to 9 pm?
Anyone going to Vegas during this time, we sure hope you%26#39;ll join us.. Consider this your invitation! If you%26#39;re downtown, and you see a Gold Hat just walk right up and introduce yourself.
EVERYONE on this forum is encouraged to join us, and we hope to see a whole bunch of you prior to the MEGA event...
Downtown is easily accessible to all, and with their placement all in close proximity, it is great for people like me, who have problems walking. Scooters are available for rent to help you get from here to there, and speaking from personal experience, they are a WHOLE LOT of fun too!
Tentative STRIP activities at this point are: (Copied from gabbygamblers post) Mon night (6/1) is Margaritaville and Dueling Pianos at Harrahs and maybe slots n shots after that. Tues is the MEGA (6/2) and Weds is firsty%26#39;s birthday followed by dinner (6/3)
Please be sure to let either Marge (orangectny) or GabbyGambler know you are coming, and how many are in your party!
All of us are here to help you (and ourselves as well.. for sure) have a Great Time at the Mega this year, and are happily looking forward to meeting lots of new people, and joining together with old friends who have been with us before. Lets make this a really GREAT MEGA 2009, for ourselves and for history and posterity!!

Nice Post Sheila. Full of useful information. Bumping to page 1.
Downtown Activities Plan, MEGA WEEK 2009, 5/27 ~ 6/3
Wow, Sheila! Outstanding format to summarize what%26#39;s on the drawing board right now! Thank You, Dear Heart!
Quite comprehensive Ms Supershe. Perhaps you%26#39;ll see me in Vegas this coming May/June. I hope you have a great trip. Best wishes to you young lady.
A slushy party!! Heck ya!!! I%26#39;ll be packing my 1/2 yard or my football.. haven%26#39;t decided yet!! I%26#39;d be happy to host a slushy party too!! (hmmm... I have an idea too....hmmm....)Ya see... Lucky Cursing fox have me the business card of the host at La Bayou (I didn%26#39;t even know they had hosts there!!!), I will call them and see what they can do for us!!
Thanks for the bump, va.... and
Carolina Sunny, you always make me smile. It is time that we sorta ';formalize things';... I thought.
And reh, as always, I hope I do get the chance to meet up with you. I%26#39;ve always enjoyed it in the past. I may add a Downtown Cocktail Lounge trip on Monday evening... early, so we can get good seats. LOL As you know, I really enjoy that place. Until you%26#39;ve been there, you really don%26#39;t know what you%26#39;re missing. Its like a modern ';beatnik joint';. And I certainly remember those! LOL
Great idea, Pookie! And I never even thought about asking for anything from those casinos! You are the bomb, girl! Ok.. you are officially the host of the Slushie Street Party... You get to assign a time frame too! Isn%26#39;t that the best location to have one? I love that part of the Canopy. Its always ';so alive';. I%26#39;m gonna try a slushie or two this time. :-)
I%26#39;ll have to do the little ones though. No way could I drink a great big one!
I%26#39;ll be spending some time DT the last week of this month, and will be checking out a couple of different ';new'; places to me.
Hennessey%26#39;s and Mickie Finnz might prove to be fun, new watering holes, as if anybody needs another place. LOL
Food at both looks good, and they are listed on www.restaurant.com for dining certificates. Also, there are some killer happy hours and other meal deals on certain days. I will be happy to report back!
Also, plan on seeing Gordie Brown at the Golden Nugget, there%26#39;s an ACG Coupon (states Caveman Show) but, will be honored as a 2/1 for the Gordie Brown Show!
Sheila, I just drove to Pittsburgh and back AND the DT thread is UP. WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!!
You did a fantastic job. Yes we all know that times and activities will evolve to the benefit of the majority.
I have never made it to the Downtown Cocktail Lounge so count me in.
I do have one problem that I am going to take care of. Don%26#39;t think you guys are going to have midnight slots on Friday and MSS Brunch on Sat without me. I am coming in by Friday. I%26#39;m not going to miss out.
Benny
Now you made me laugh, Benny~ If I%26#39;d known posting dates and times would get you onboard earlier, I%26#39;d have posted this sooner. :-)
Carolina.. I%26#39;ve also thought about Hennessey%26#39;s before, and even have a Restaurant.com coupon ready to go. Marge mentioned before wanting to try Fish and Chips there... so, maybe.. I%26#39;m thinking... Monday evening we could do dinner at Hennessey%26#39;s, and THEN.. right around the corner, is.. The Downtown Cocktail Lounge. So we could do that after!
Benny wants to do that, I think Marge does also, and.. I%26#39;ll just drag you along, Sunny. hahahaha
Anybody else up for a fine Irish time at Hennessey%26#39;s, and then a trip into yesteryear, to a newday beatnik joint? They%26#39;ll treat us well, there, I%26#39;m sure. Reh has great connections... I%26#39;ll just mention his name. I think the really nice cocktail waitress there is Alicia. She%26#39;s always really been attentive to our needs. This is a great place to discuss.. well, anything from the price of copper in China, to... who wrote the Sherlock Holmes books. The music is really fantastic as well. The genre runs from jazz, to country, to soft rock, to old style... very nice.
I do, I do! (raising my hand)
I want to do everything. Maybe I could get 2 weeks off. NOT!
