Back between 2004-2007 Harrah%26#39;s purchased Caesar%26#39;s group of hotel. Then they Bought Imperial Palace and Bourbon Street.
The blew up Bourbon street without hesitation, but this now gave them land from Harrah%26#39;s down to Flamingo. Then they acquired Barbary Coast (Now Bill%26#39;s) completing the stretch to East Flamingo Drive.
Was Harrah%26#39;s attempting to snatch up enough land to do a rival ';City Center'; project? Now of course the economy is stopping any idea of that, but was their other issues they hit? Such as the convienence store and Batista%26#39;s Hole in the Wall not selling their land?
I was always curious.
What was Harrah's BIG plan for the mid-strip area?
I think that their new theme song is %26#39;Stayin Alive!%26#39;
What was Harrah's BIG plan for the mid-strip area?
Their plan was simple - knock down a nice, profitable mid-level casino. Draw up big plans for a gaint complex of high-end hotels and condos. Dig a big hole in the ground. Realize they don%26#39;t have anough money to finish and that Vegas has too many high-end hotels as it is. Mothball the whole project.
Oh wait, that%26#39;s Boyds big plan. Nevermind.
They never really said. The only thing announced was an arena behind Bally%26#39;s that hasn%26#39;t gone anywhere. They do own the land that Batistas sits on. There was a hold out but it was a resort and they may have made a deal by now. I hope so for the owners sake as he can%26#39;t get the same price today!
Some of the stuff floated was maybe condos (not on the scale of City Center), retail, maybe a casino behind the strip, razing/redoing Bally%26#39;s and renaming it Horseshoe, coming up with a way to connect all the hotel properties along the back, and demolishing IP.
Yep. I still think Bally%26#39;s will be renamed Horseshoe eventually, if HET doesn%26#39;t sell it.
I think the general idea was that IP and Bill%26#39;s would be razed. Flamingo and Harrah%26#39;s both expanded and tied together.
Pie-in-the-sky rumor I saw once was some sort of two or three story skywalk crossing Flamingo road to connect Flamingo and Bally%26#39;s Horseshoe. Sort of like Mandalay Place between MB and Luxor, I guess. Shopping, dining, etc.
