I am staying at Paris in June, can anyone tell me about the P rooms? Is this an upgrade, something that has to be paid for, or do you just ask at checkin and if any rooms are available they might give them to you?
Paris P rooms
How did you book? What is your rate?
I have been diligently researching and shopping rates for April for Paris and other properties and here%26#39;s my experience.
There was much reference to ';P'; rooms last year, but not recently. I%26#39;m guessing they are now suffixed by Premier (view).
Desk clerks, when you ask about upgrades, whip out a rate sheet and it%26#39;s $50/night more for a view room. Even then, it may just be a higher floor, not necessarily toward to Eiffel Tower. Or, you will probably be offered an upgrade, for an additional rate, without asking, depending on hotel fill when you check in.
Some have reported, here and there, success (but mostly NOT successful) with the ';$20 trick';, but it%26#39;s not something I, personally, would try, anyway.
I have also read of folks receiving upgrades for free with no mention and not realizing this until they reached the room and looked out the window. I%26#39;m guessing those desk clerks are quite fickle and much turns on occupancy and the specific clerk at the moment you check in.
If you search this forum, you%26#39;ll find all sorts of resources for promotional and discount codes. Typically, these are for the basic room only. Notwithstanding possibility of paying for an upgrade on check-in, if available. Or, being blessed by a generous front desk clerk.
The best promotional rate I found was ';Friends and Family'; for ';as low as $60/night';. If your dates are flexible, you can find $60 ($75 weekends) rates. The ';valid through'; date is continuously extended (so far) as time goes on. So, even though a promotion rate may indicate ';valid through February 28th'; rates are available a month or two beyond when you look at the ';availability calendar';.
I had a booking for three weeknights in April for $60/night (and, contrary to my usual resistance to use Hotwire for Las Vegas for a number of reasons, I managed to snare a rate of $109 for the following five nights at the Wynn with Hotwire, and am positively thrilled with that).
By total happenstance, I clicked on an article on MSNBC today included in a response on another travel forum (on a totally unrelated topic). At the top of the screen was one of those ';rotating'; ads, like here on TripAdvisor: ';Paris Las Vegas: Eiffel Tower View just $30 more, rates as low as $70';.
When I clicked on the link, I saw ';valid until March 31st';. But, when I clicked on the availability calendar, that $70 + $30 or $100 was available for my three weeknights on the April calendar. When I went to book nights in April, however, I got an error message. But, I got the same error message for dates in March, so I picked up the phone and gave them the code: PPUP2, and was able to book the Eiffel Tower view for $100/night. Without the code, rate is $190, or with ';Friends and Family'; $60 + $50 or $110.
Here%26#39;s a link, which may or may not work

At any rate, as I mentioned, these promotions have been extended from month to month, so may probably be extended into June if you keep watching.
