Hey all! Back last evening from 3 nights in LV with my mom. I%26#39;m not going to do a detailed TR like some of you ';pros';, just going to categorize things as I get the time to write. You won%26#39;t find anything exciting in this TR, my mom and I aren%26#39;t exciting - LOL! Ok, I%26#39;M exciting, but not when I%26#39;m with my mom!

FLIGHT:

Flew AirTran out of Flint, MI @ 5:44 am on the 23rd. We had gone down the night before and stayed at a nearby hotel so we didn%26#39;t have to get up any earlier then we already were!

Flight was nice and smooth. What I WILL complain about is the $15 per bag charge that AirTran has started. More on this later. We arrived in LV right on time, grabbed our bags and headed for the taxi line; but there wasn%26#39;t one! It was noon and no one was waiting for a cab - I%26#39;ve never seen no line before so it was quite a surprise.

Got in the cab and headed for The Mirage.

PART II - Cabbie Ambassador and The Mirage

Ok, so we grab a cab at the airport. I know we%26#39;ll be ok cuz the cabbie speaks PERFECT English! Anyway, he starts talking about how bad it is in Vegas, how bad the economy is, how it%26#39;s only going to get worse. There are over 300 gangs in LV, crime is rampant, service anywhere has gotten terrible and there are too many cabbies on the road and not enough customers. I told him he should work as a city Ambassador(lol!) which only made him complain more! Complaining aside, he got us to The Mirage (no tunnel - yay!) for around $15. Real nice guy, but certainly no ambassador.

We had 3 nights comped at The Mirage and I had $75 in FreePlay. We checked in (no line) and were given room 14-006. I didn%26#39;t try for anything higher because my mom IS DEATHLY AFRAID of elevators and any higher and I%26#39;d have to carry her on my back up the stairs!!!!!!

The room was beautiful! New carpet, bedding, draperies, really awesome flat screen on the wall, mini-bar (YIKES the prices!) all done in a sort of Asian theme. After looking around and getting our luggage sorted I decided to look out the window. We an an excellent view of the pool and down the strip. What a nice surprise! In all my trips to LV, I%26#39;ve never had a view because I never considered it necessary, but it was nice to finally have one.

As everyone has said, the bathrooms are quite small. But once again, I think they%26#39;re beautiful. All the marble! And a make-up mirror on the wall (thanks again for the pics of that Low!). The beds are HEAVENLY!!!!! My mom and I both wanted to take them home! New bed linens and lot%26#39;s of pillows.

Housekeeping was very good during our stay, but never did refill our Kleenex box after it ran out the first day (I had a sinus infection before leaving). But no big deal, another use for toilet paper and I%26#39;m not one to complain so we let it go.

All in all, the refurb of the rooms is excellent. If you haven%26#39;t stayed yet since they%26#39;ve done them, I hope you%26#39;ll be as pleasantly surprised as I was!

left Flint @5:44AM? (2:44AM Vegas time)...and arrived at NOON?....Yikes...9 hours?...bad connection times during this recession...there are MUCH better flight times out there, now...just saying...................................z

I don%26#39;t even want to talk about the route we took to get to LV! Suffice to say, I must have had a mini stroke at the time of booking because I can%26#39;t think of any other reason that I booked this flight!

Food:

We are not foodies, but would like our hot food hot and our cold food, cold. We ask for nothing more.

Caribe Cafe - Mirage: Ate our first meal here as we were hungry and mom was tired (that 9 hr trip and all - lol!) Mom and a tuna MELTS (that%26#39;s 2 melts on one plate) with fries; I had a BLT with kettle chips. Portions were HUGE, food was somewhat cold. I just ate what I could and mom sent her%26#39;s back for a reheat. I%26#39;m giving it a 7/10.

McDonalds - That%26#39;s right, McDonald%26#39;s. You%26#39;d head straight there too if you%26#39;re mother was threatening hari-kari if she didn%26#39;t have coffee NOW! We ate here both mornings. Nuff%26#39; said!

Margaritaville - Finally got to eat here and have the Volcano Nachos - just as good as everyone says!! There was no way we could finish them! 10/10

California Pizza Factory - Mirage - My mom ordered 1/2 Cobb Salad and I the Wild Mushroom Pizza. The food arrived and the salad was a disgrace!!!!! Some regular old green lettuce, some hard boiled egg, cut up pieces of bacon, sliced avacado and cheese. And it was sooooooooooooo small and $14!!!!! WTF???? Are you kidding me? Anyway, she didn%26#39;t complain, my pizza was good. Pizza 8/10, Cobb Salad - 000000!

That%26#39;s it, that%26#39;s all we ate. Pretty boring eh?
