Wondering, with the current economic crisis, which hotels do you think will weather the storm? Which hotels do you think will be nothing but memories?
Hotels and economy
Venetian and the MGM are in deep financial trouble due to over expansion. MGM still can sell off hotels and save the city centre, but Venetian is in too deep. Harrahs hotels should hold together.
Hotels and economy
It%26#39;s hard to say. There are several companies in trouble but a few have assests worth something to someone. The Tropicana is in trouble but it may go to someone for a few cents on the dollar instead of closing due to bankruptcy. It sounds like things are tough at the Riviera but they may have enough cash to sit things out. HET is in trouble but someone will manage to find the money for it if it comes to that just to have control over those marketing computers.
Hooters is the one most likely to close and it will probably be soon.
Longboard - Didn%26#39;t MGM recently sell TI??
Stations will either enter voluntary bankruptcy shortly or make a deal with Boyd to sell most of their properties.
HET is probably in dire straits, but should survive somehow, possible by finding new investors or selling properties.
LVS is teetering on bankruptcy due to debt and the inability to refianance it at any reasonble price.
MGM should survive, but in doing so might lose more control to Dubai. And of course may have to sell more assets.
The Riviera and Stardust just because they%26#39;re old and too far north.
Oops, Sahara not Stardust!
City Centre is almost done, and yes they sold TI, but easily could sell off several more, Luxor, Excalibur , Circus, NYNY are some they wouldn%26#39;t cry about. Venetian is spending billions in Asia all 100% financed, that is their big problem.
speaking of the economy, I think the soft market currently is also a result of the greed and lack of competiton. Vegas did very well in the last 1990s recession. But now we have $15 martinis, $175 shows, $40 buffetts. The got too fat and are looking for joe the plumber to bail them out. Lower the prices and people return
Did not realize Venetian was spending so much in Asia! Sounds like a giant Monopoly game!
Venetian had this scheme where they build huge hotels and sell off the retail section for massive profits to pay for the hotel, only problem is the retail portion is worthless now. The group that is buying the venetian shops is on the verge of BK. Also those condos they are building where planned to sell for $4 million each to make money, good luck at that price.
