Restaurant opinions needed

We have 3 nights on an upcoming trip and would like to have a nice dinner each night. We already have reservations at Japonais @ Mirage and Wing Lei @ Wynn.

Right now, I%26#39;m also considering Mesa Grill @ Caesars, Kokomo%26#39;s @ Mirage, or Samba @ Mirage.

I%26#39;d be interested in opinions on the three I%26#39;m considering - if one stands out more than the rest. Or, is there another place you suggest I try? Thanks for the help.

Restaurant opinions needed

We enjoyed Olives at the Bellagio. Sit outside at night and you have a GREAT view of the fountains! Okada at the Wynn and Sinatra at Encore are both great!

Restaurant opinions needed

Right now Kokomo%26#39;s is offering a $29.95 fixed price menu, request it if you go there. There are two other restaurants at Mirage also offering this special but not sure which ones they are. Kokomos is good but since you are already eating at Mirage one night, thik I might try Mesa Grill at Caesars, it%26#39;s a Bobby Flay restaurant and the food is good!

I can recommend Mesa Grill, but I my personal preferences are for Craftsteak at MGM or Delmonico Steakhouse at the Venetian!

I would cross off Samba from the list. The food wasn%26#39;t that great.

I eat at Samba every time I am in Vegas. I think that the food is great... Lot%26#39;s of flavors, and unlimited portions. No one I have taken there has ever disagreed.

I like Diego%26#39;s in the MGM, food and wait staff are very good. If you go there you must get the guacamole, they make it fresh in front of you. I do not recommend Delmonico%26#39;s in the Venetian food was just ok and for 4 our bill was $350, way over priced.

  • Cheap Eats Around or in MGM Grand?

Any cheap eats around the MGM Grand?

Cheap Eats Around or in MGM Grand?

Mgm has a decent food court.

Cheap Eats Around or in MGM Grand?

walk the 5 minutes to monte carlo buffet, its $10 less ($18)and is good value for money if MGM is over your budget,Harley Davidson is good value too and lots of the restaurants in miracle mile are cheap for the strip, pampas brazilian is good and you can pre-book at somewhere like Tix-4-you for 40% discount

The brew pub at the Monte Carlo and Gonzalez y Gonzalez at NYNY are reasonably priced.

    Fat Burger

Food Court at Monte Carlo, Excalibur, NY NY, MGM and Luxor. Most have McDonalds, pizza, Chinese and subs.

Hooters across the street (Tropicana), has 25 cents wings from midnight to 6am at Dan Marino%26#39;s restaurant. The place is always packed during that time.

    Hello.

This was just for me I guess. We will stay at Desert Rose as for the map it looks just next to MGM. I have read a million tips on buffets, actually so many that I don%26#39;t know up or down anymore, so I kind of gave up and thought I will just take my family to the restaurant that comes along... goodness what kind of luxury problem.

I will save this topic though and maybe there is something for us. My husband might even set his clock to wake him up after midnight so that he can go to hooters. He has talked about that place, but back in Europe we think this is not a family restaurant. So I will be a good wife and let him go by himself... smiling.

    Regards, Jane

    fatburger, kingfat meal

Try walking up to Miracle Mile in Planet Hollywood. It has several good inexpensive places to eat... La Salsa Cantina, Tacone Grill, Earl of Sanwich and many others. You can get a $10 off coupon for Tacone Grill on restaurant.com.

One word of warning. The food court at MGM is good, but avoid Studio Wok at all costs! Food only tastes good going down!

    first time to vegas help!!!

going to vegas for the first time in july for my 21st birthday! few questions.

booked the mirage with the volcano offer looks like a good choice and have heard good things about the pool. how far is it away from ceasers is it a good location?

what is the dress code in the evenings do u have to dress up or is it pretty casual?

where is the best place to shop? have heard about the outlets how far away are they?

    first time to vegas help!!!

    Excellent location

Forum shops, Canal Shops across the street, Fashion Show mall by TI

You can cab south of mandalay Bay for the outlet mall shops.

Dress is casual except in high dollar restaurants and clubs.

Mirage-Forum Shops-Caesars. very close by Vegas standards!

    www.vegastodayandtomorrow.com/condomap.htm

    first time to vegas help!!!

It is an excellent location. You can easily get to the casinos on the south strip and north strip from the Mirage. A free tram connects the Mirage with TI.

Other than the most exclusive restaurants (where you would want to dress up a bit) and the clubs- there really aren%26#39;t any dress codes. It is a very casual place. You will see everythinng and anything at most restaurtants, shows and casinos at night-from torn jeans/shorts to business casual to formalwear. Some people like to drss up a bit at night while others don%26#39;t bother.

Here is a list of the malls- outlet and regular. The best outlet mall is Premium and the easiest regular mall to get to is Fashion Show (right on the strip across from TI).

    lasvegasadvisor.com/…

You would have to use a bus or cab to get to the outlet malls. Click on their links for information about transportation.

Make sure you are 21 already, not during the visit. You will love where you are staying.

yes i am 21 3 days before i go so that wont be a problem! thanks for all your responses cant wait! just another question where would u reccommend going to eat for dinner that is reasonable price say about $15 each but still nice? am going to cheesecake factory one night for definate went in miami and new jersey and loved it but have no idea where else to go

July temps. are like Satan%26#39;s kitchen.

So my advice is dress cool and comfortably.

I try to dress a little on the fashionably side in the evenings myself, but you will see all kinds.

    LL

For that price, your best bet are chains (for dinner)

Grand Luxe at Venetian %26amp; Palazzo is owned by Cheesecake Factory.

Isla is great MX food at TI w/ great vibe, great prices (not officially a chain, but several restaurants by same owner--one in NYC, I think)

    CA Pizza Kitchen at Mirage.

    PF Changs at PH.

You will love MIrage...great pool, location.

Whether you dress up or not is up to you. You will find a lot more dressing up in the evenings, but by no means is it necessary, unless you are planning on hitting clubs (NOT a cheap venture...drinks can cost $15 each)

Great shopping at Caesars, Venetian, Planet Hollywood, as well as Fashion Show Mall north of TI. Not necessarily CHEAP shopping...but there are chains (H%26amp;M!!) as well as very high end.

    Have a great time!

how long does it take in a cab to the premium outlet??

Newbie needs help planning girls birthday trip

Would love to hear from some Vegas Veterans about recommendations for hotels, clubs, restaurants for my upcoming BIG BIRTHDAY in August 2009. FYI, we are four ladies primarily in our 40s. Interested in a nice hotel that is in a great location and has a great pool. Price range needs to be under $200/night for all of us. We may be in our 40s, but we love to party and tend to hang out with people of all ages. We want to check out some of the bigger nightclubs, but need a place where there is a nice mix of age groups. Would appreciate any advice!!!

Newbie needs help planning girls birthday trip

What dates are you going? Weekend or weekdays? That would probably make a big difference in prices for hotels. I would check www.smartervegas.com and see what promo codes are available for your dates.

Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and of course the Venetian and Wynn all have fabulous pools but I would check prices and narrow a huge list down that way. Plus, you may want to go to a spa. If so that may also make a difference in where you want to stay.

Newbie needs help planning girls birthday trip

I always like Mirage during the Summer. The pool is great. You have a good mix of single, groups, and couples of all age ranges. Jet is a great night club on the property.

We will be there 4 nights from Friday thru Monday night.

Thanks for the suggestions on hotels. I am watching rates closely hoping to get a suite for the price of a room. Love the look of the rooms at the Venetian, but right now there are no promo codes for August avail. The Signature looks good, but am concerned about the distance from the center of the action.

We will be going to at least one spa-most likely the one at Caesar%26#39;s Palace.

What are your dates of travel??? Are all four of you wanting to share a room or do you want to book 2 rooms of 2 in each. I can%26#39;t imagine 4 women trying to get ready to go out at the same time all in one room.

It is too early for promotional rates/specials to be out just yet, they don%26#39;t usually come out until 2-3 months before your travel dates. I%26#39;d say mid to late May would be when you might start seeing deals for August dates.

Sunday through Thursday stays are quite a bit cheaper than Friday-Sat night stays in Vegas.

Gabby-We will be there Aug 7th and check out on the 11th. You hit the nail on the head about 4 women trying to get ready at once. MGM Grand e-mailed a great offer where I could afford to get two connecting rooms, but I was a little leary of the MGM because I have read that there will be alot of kids especially in the pool area. We love kids, but we are leaving ours at home!!!

    monte carlo hotel construction

im stain in monte carlo,on 19 july 2009,does any1 know if pool will b done by then, and has the parking garage been done yet, also are a lot of the buildings in the construction up yet, would b very gratefull for any replies thanx

    HET comped room question

Does anyone know if HET property will try to charge me the extra person fee on a comped room?

    HET comped room question

On our Oct trip a friend who had a comped room that she shared with another, both names were put on the room at checkin and there were no additional charges, same happened to me when our kids accompanied us on a past trip, the room for my son was comped and he shared it with 3 others, no additional charge. All names must be given however at checkin.

    HET comped room question

I emailed a couple HET properties recently and both mentioned that there is NO extra person charge with the %26#39;comp%26#39; rooms, however they did state that you would have to pay extra for a rollaway bed if you needed it.

Thanks so much for input. Now my question is: the reservation I made stated that there would be four in the room. Turns out there will only be three. I requested two queens but the reservation does not show that. Obviously four could not fit without two beds but they don%26#39;t quarantee bed choice. Should I call with the change in person numbers or leave well enough alone? If they found there would only be three would they try to give me a King and then charge for a roll-away? Would not put anything past them at this point getting so disappointed with the current status of things. Thanks again.

I usually reserve for 3 and no extra charge. I have always been given 2 beds. I think not many Kings so usually a premium.

    Good Luck

I always have been given two beds whether I specified 2 or 3 people.

  • special occassions

We%26#39;re going to Laughlin on our Anniversary and birthday. Do any of the hotels have a special gift for this?

    special occassions

Not unless you have a casino host.....then tell them your occasion and they will take care of you

    special occassions

Thanks! How do you get a casino host? Are there any businesses there where I can purchase something that could be delivered to my hotel room?

A casino host is someone that takes care of ';details'; for the prefered gambler. That person is a customer that is very valuable to the casino due to their higher gambling action.

However, if you just want to get a special gift delivered to your room, you don%26#39;t need a host. The Bell Desk can deliver to your room (a tip is expected). You can buy a gift at the gift shop and ask them to have the bell desk to delivery it. If you can%26#39;t find that special gift at the casino, I am sure you can have a local business deliver it to the bell desk where they will take it to your room. Of course not all business will deliver to a casino.

you have to show play. When you check in ask to be rated on slots or table play or both. They will assign you a host IF your play warrants it.....or just ask to see a host and they can answer your questions. One hundred and two hundred a day bettors is not going to get a host......you have to show some play.Ask how much you need to get room, food comps, and gifts.

Example.....my neighbor has a host at riverside. He gambles about 3 days a week and pushes three hundred to a grand through each day he goes.

Teana:We are leaving from Medford in July, have already booked Harrah%26#39;s and they have quite a lot of anniversary and birthday packages you can pre-order on line.Hope this helps.

Piano bars . . . but not really that kind

Ok, I love the dueling pianos, say, at NYNY. But here in Memphis, I really enjoy going to Mollie Fontaine%26#39;s to hear Di Anne Price. There you can sit at the piano, and she makes an effort to engage everyone around her. She learns their names, makes conversation between (and sometimes during) songs, and just makes everyone around her feel special. She plays standards, with choice blues, country, and pop songs thrown in for good measure. Sometimes we even end up in a gospel sing along to end the evening.

Anyway, I fully well intend to have my fill of dueling pianos next month in Vegas, but does anyone know of a place that offers a piano bar experience that is intimate and a bit more grown up?

Piano bars . . . but not really that kind

    Bootlegger

Piano bars . . . but not really that kind

I was in Napolean%26#39;s (at the Paris) last weekend and it looked like we were the youngest people in there (early/mid 30%26#39;s)

You would probably enjoy Dian Diaz.

    for her music and schedule.

Its all about who pays the bucks to what tunes they play aswell!

Reservation showing as Cancelled on HET TR site . . .

I have (comped) reservations at two different Harrah%26#39;s properties in March (the first for one night at RIO , then five days break , then another 5 nights at Paris).

I received email confirmations for both rooms when I booked them awhile back, but when I logged onto the site today to double-check the reservation and check points, etc the first reservation is showing %26#39;Cancelled%26#39; in red letters above the reservation! When I go into the reservation , it notes that the reservation it is active. I called Harrah%26#39;s Customer service to confirm that they still had my reservations for both the RIO and Paris and they do and everything seems to be showing as expected on their end , but I also asked if they knew why it would be showing on the site as cancelled and they had no idea.

We just stayed at Bally%26#39;s in Atlantic City for a couple of nights and just got back yesterday. That reservation also shows as cancelled now (which is fine, since we already used the room - and when I go into that one , it correctly notes that that reservation is in the past), but am wondering if desk person who checked us in somehow marked the other reservation incorrectly....

I will check back in a few days on their site to see if the reservation is still there and whether it is still showing as cancelled, and will call back again to re-confirm just to make sure everything is a-okay (would be bad to get to vegas and have no room!), but was wondering if anyone here has experienced anything similar (either right now on the site or in the past - and if in the past, did everything turn out okay)?

Thanks in advance for any info you might have to share!

Reservation showing as Cancelled on HET TR site . . .

Harrahs%26#39; system is so screwed up, I%26#39;m surprised they are even able to take reservations properly.

My dad was booked at Bally%26#39;s a few weeks ago for one night and the online system had him staying for two; his confirmation said one night; when he called they said one night. Sure enough, online check-in was like the 13th, check-out the 15th.

It sounds like your reservation is legitimate (i.e. not back-to-back offers or anything that they don%26#39;t allow), so I%26#39;d just make copies of everything and be prepared to argue if you run into a problem.

Reservation showing as Cancelled on HET TR site . . .

thats exactly what my moms is showing. we booked comp rooms 4 nights at the RIO in July and under current res it shows none and then under cancelled it shows but when you pull it up it shows active. i thought it was strange too but was going to worry closer to time...

You had me worried for a minute. I just checked my reservation and at first it shows no reservation but then I put in my confirmation # %26amp; I%26#39;m good to go.

    kittykitty --

I think I had that problem last week as well with our AC reservation before we left - they seemed to be in the process of updating the site at the time and I wasn%26#39;t seeing that particular reservation - but same as you , had no problem looking it up and retrieving the reservation using the confirmation code (and also had no problems when we got there to check-in).

all- thanks for input so far, sounds like some others are seeing some strange things as well - will keep you posted if I find out anything else

I have my confirmation page so they better honor it or I will be bunking with a stranger. LOL. Hey! Now that%26#39;s an idea. LMAO at that thought.

You scared me too. I am going to check my res. right now for next week!

    an update :

definitely didn%26#39;t mean to scare anyone!

I still don%26#39;t know for sure whether there was something weird with my particular reservation or just something glitchy on the site, but I rechecked the HET site today and the reservation is showing correctly without the %26#39;canceled%26#39; warning again - so whatever the problem was now appears to be resolved.

My Paris booking is showing OK, but my IP booking started showing ';Cancelled'; after I called to take advantage of some comped nights.

The ';Cancelled'; did disappear for a while, but I%26#39;ve just checked and it%26#39;s showing again even though the reservation is showing as active when I click on it.

I did call when it first showed as Cancelled, but the clerk said it was all OK.

Mine is the same...Have a reservation at Paris, booked by a host. It shows cancelled on ';myTR'; but shows active if I call it up.

I also called and they say there is no problem.

Just made my today and had a look. It%26#39;s got the wrong TR number for some reason it%26#39;s not even DH%26#39;s so I%26#39;ve no idea where that came from. I requested smoking and it says non smoking, I asked for one king bed there is no bed preference listed and I know there is no gaurantee but I did ask high floor with stirp view which the woman said she would include but on the %26#39;other preferences%26#39; it doesn%26#39;t have anything. At least it%26#39;s not too expensive to cal the States :) I%26#39;ll try to get it sorted in the morning.

    Delays crossing Hoover Dam ?

We%26#39;ll be making our way by car to LV from Phoenix in a few weeks. We anticipate making it to the dam in the early part of a Sunday afternoon.

Does anyone know what type of bridge construction delays we%26#39;ll face? How about returning on a Tuesday afternoon?

    Weekend Trip Report 02/20-02/22

    Goal of the Trip:

Meeting two friends in Vegas with the goal of bring the casinos to their knees….

    The Characters involved:

Me, The Furlough Kid (he works for the state), and El Cheapo (for obvious reasons).

    The Location:

    Rio (me) The Luxor (them)

Left home at 5:30 arrived at the Rio at 9:00 (stopped at Primm for breakfast). There was no traffic or rain. Played $10 craps for a little over an hour and walked away up $5. This breaking Vegas deal was going to take a while. I decided to play cards 3 card and black ended up losing $300. Seeing as it been only 2 hours since I last ate, I walked over to the Gold Coast and ate their $3.49 Eggctacular special (two eggs any style, and your choice of meat. toast or English muffin. It was great, but it didn’t kill me either.

After eating, I played a little $5 craps. The thing about craps is you have to play conservatively till a shooter gets hot (or make wrong bets, but I’m lousy at that). No one was even lukewarm here. So I went to the cage to cash in my chips. There was a line (there’s always a line when I want to do something) and a CW was taking drink orders! Nearly everyone was cashing their paychecks, thus the long line.

From the Gold Coast I walked to the Palms. At the $10 craps table someone finally got hot and I was able to double my money! There was the old biker guy would made a snarky remark after anyone craped out no matter how long they rolled. When his turn came to roll he craped out after his second roll I said, “Way to go!” one of his favorite lines. He looked like he wanted to rip my throat out, but atlas, he was out of money and left. I went to check out the Playboy club but it was closed (those lazy bunnies). It was three O’clock and time to check in at the Rio.

After reading all the post here I figured everyone was staying (comped of course) at the Wynn, MB, Encore, or the Bellagio (Funny when I stayed at those places there weren’t long lines), so I should be able to walk right up and get upgraded for free. Image my surprise when I came to the Rio and the check in line was to the door!

Somehow I managed to survive the indignity of having to wait in an other line and went to my room on the 9th floor. The room came equipped with a mini-fridge, safe, sofa, arm chair, table, one of those mirrors that magnifies your face like 1000 times, a cylindrical pillow, and that bench in front of the bed that hoity-toity people have. My only complaint was when you walked in the room the entry way smelled like bacon. Next time I’ll have to ask for a kosher room.

    Next: The coconspirators arrive…..

TR 02/21-22 Wynn- Western and everything in between Atomic

    LOL...enjoying your report!

    enjoying..

    bella

    LOL kosher room love it

    Loving it so far....

Please continue. This is most entertaining.

    Part II

Realizing that soon my partners in crime will be arriving shortly I made decided it would be a good time to head for the Wynn. I like gambling there, and my skinflint friend don’t so this would most likely be the only time I’ll be able to go over there. I got there by taking the free shuttle to Harrah’s then taking a cab to Wynn (to save time). My luck with the cards wasn’t any better there, but I did meet a family (two sisters and their husbands) who apparently visit locales that have legalized gambling (Italy, Dominican Rep extra). Anyways my friends texted and said they were at the Luxor so off I went.

Apparently, “at the Luxor” means nowhere near the Luxor. So I went to play craps and this kid form Hawaii, or at least I think he was cause every time he hit a number (like the point, 6 or 8) he would scream Honolulu! I was able to win over $200 from this guy alone. Finally the arrived (for reals this time) and checked-in. They were given a second floor (1st floor for my British friends) room. I went to look at it since I’ve only stayed in the tower rooms. It was nice. I don’t see why people bash that place.

We decided to go to the Hard Rock and have the all you can eat prime rib special (not on the menu) at Mr. Lucky’s. I had the 777 special (not on the menu either) which is steak, four shrimp, and mashed potatoes for wait for it…$7.77. After eating we hit the tables, craps for El cheapo and myself No Bust 21 for The Kid. I got on a hot streak and won the fire bet for some drunk guy and he gave me $100! The table grew cold so we move to another where some rich guy was throwing $5 chips at his friend for bad mouthing some deal, so we left for the Trop…

Played some 3 card won $100 moved to Let it Ride with 3 card bonus lost $50 then moved to $5 craps where some guy started a fight with the dealers and boxman over the way he was throwing the dice. He yelled at them saying things like what are you going to do throw me out I can go other places. He did leave. In better times, I believe he would have been shown the door…

Soon El Cheapo wanted to show us how to play Pai Gow (he suddenly became an expert) so we went to Casino Royal (where he said he won a lot of money playing it). I knew they had craps with 100x odds there I agreed to go. For some reason we didn’t find any Pai Gow tables (they must have moved them), so we left for Harrah’s…

At Harrah’s They sat down and played. They funny thing was Mr. Know it all kept making mistakes and the dealer got pissed to we left to the craps tables where we spent the rest of the night.

Without knowing your ages, likes and dislikes, and when you%26#39;re goiing to be in Vegas, it%26#39;s hard to answer well.

I%26#39;ve eaten at the St Louis Cafe and the Paris buffet and found both to be outstanding

    Shows for me....

Depending on when you%26#39;re going, Cher or Bette Midler at Caesars

Love is a great show at Mirage

Rita Rudner at Harrahs is clean and hilarious (Though dirty wouldn%26#39;t offend me)

Tom Jones was good at MGM

I still want to see Phantom at Venetian

Jersey Boys was very good at Palazzo

Thanks - for the last few years - I have taken her to Vegas for her birthday when she hit 60 yrs. We have enjoyed each trip - we have stayed at Monte Carlo, Venician and Harrahs. We enjoy doing the day trip tours around the area - seeing shows at night and gambling in the late night / early morning hours. We are always looking for a good deal!

I think you%26#39;re going to love Paris. We%26#39;ve stayed there twice and are going back in June.

    Have you seen ';O'; - it%26#39;s spectacular.

    Loved Jersey Boys.

Rita Rudner and Danny Gans were both great shows.

Enjoy your trip and mom%26#39;s birthday.

I would reccommend that if you booked a regular room to ask for a p-suite when you get there. It is a corner room with more windows...better view and it is more spacious. There shouldn%26#39;t be any extra cost for this upgrade.

Another thing would be to have dinner at Casa di Amore and have their limo come and pick you up at the hotel. That would be a nice surprise for her.

    Have fun, Nicaribbean

Great - I have been reading many nice things about this hotel. My mom plays alot at the Harrahs in New Orleans and did get us 2 nights free along with a very discounted rate on the last night. Has anyone gotten access to the Le Rendezvous Concierge Lounge located on the 31st floor - is it worth it to try and get this whether a reward or to pay for it?

She might enjoy Menopause the Musical at the Hilton. I thought it was hilarious! You can probably get discount tickets at Tix2Night

She loves Elvis - that is a great idea. I wonder if they have any other Elvis shows beside the one in the Legends Concert at IP (we always go and see that and love it)

My DH and I paid for an upgrade with the concierge lounge. It was $65 a day for both of us. We did this on two separate vacations Oct 08 %26amp; Jan 09. We loved it. We ate our breakfast %26amp; dinner there everyday. We would have a big lunch somewhere else. It worked out great for us. DH hates to wait in line especially in the morning. They basically have the same thing every day. Breakfast - yogurt w/granola %26amp; fruit plate, cheese plate, bagels, croissants, danish, cereal, bananas, coffee, tea, bottled water, etc. Then for dinner (or what they consider munchies) _ cheese plate, fruit plate, a large sub sandwich, different kinds of sliced breads, peel and eat shrimp, and one or two warm dishes - pasta, perogis or chicken on skewers, pop, milk. Oh, and I forgot the yummy desserts! Also 2 alcoholic drinks per person. I don%26#39;t drink much and I think I only had one glass of wine in 5 days, but still thought it was well worth it. It definitely saved us money. We would do it again. The first time though we were on the 26th floor and just had to hop in the elevator and go up 5 floors. In January though, we were on the 19th floor and had to take the elevator down to the ground floor and get on a different elevator to go up to the 31st floor. I would just make sure next time that we are in the same tower or wing or whatever they call it. Didn%26#39;t mean to write a book.

I will be needing Wifi while staying at Paris, but am to cheap to pay for it at hotel. is there a Starbucks near Paris that I can access Wifi at?

A Frappuccino at my local Starbucks costs $4.27.

A Frappuccino at the Golden Nugget cost me $4.85.

A Frappuccino at Harrah%26#39;s Carnival Court cost me $5.17.

More expensive? Yes. 50-75% more? No.

The Starbucks at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut charges more than the LV Starbucks do.

  • A KINK in my plans?

Plans are to fly out Thursday morning. After spending three hours in the doctor%26#39;s office this afternoon....throat swab, nasal swab, giving blood, chest x-ray, breathing treatment, shot, and then to pharmacy to have three new prescriptions filled, the doc said it was too early to call. Whatever I have might be knocked out in two days or in fourteen days. You might say I%26#39;m a little depressed right now. But I%26#39;m going to be a very good patient and literally hibernate for the next 5 days. Oh yeah, all this on top of having arthroscopic knee surgery just nine days ago! Anyone have some words of encouragement?

    A KINK in my plans?

    God bless and GOOD LUCK..

    A KINK in my plans?

Don%26#39;t risk your health just for a trip to Las Vegas, it%26#39;s not worth it. You should cancel your trip and spend the time necessary to get well.

Hey, we are flying out the 8th. I just had my knee surgery on 2/17 and I%26#39;m going to go and do as much as I can. I%26#39;m figuring I%26#39;ll be able to walk short distance at a time because the pain is reduced but it is still pretty swollen and gets weak quickly. Luckily, no matter where you stay in Vegas, you can generally find a lot to do without moving much, if we wind up being restricted.

Maybe we should meet and compare scars! Ha!

Anna, I hasten to add that if your health is truly impaired more than the knee, get that cleared up first!

Drink lots and lots of liquor to kill all the bacteria.

Get well soon, and if you aren%26#39;t well, please don%26#39;t take the chance. To be in a strange town (so to speak) without your regular physician would be taking a chance if you are too ill. I hope it works out for you.

    Good Luck!!

    VegasSue

Hibernate, hydrate, and take you medicine and vitamins. If you MD gives you the go ahead (and I would make sure), see if s/he can give you a temporary handicapped sticker if you don%26#39;t have one already to help you get around better. Remember, Vegas isn%26#39;t going anywhere, but you only have one chance to heal your knee. All the best!

It will probably take a couple of days for the prescrips to kick in. Hopefully, you%26#39;ll be over the worst and be feeling pretty close to normal by Thursday if you get as much REST between now and then as possible.

This happened to me a year or so ago. We were supposed to leave home Sunday afternoon to go on a cruise. That morning, I woke up naseous and feverish but I was determined to go. Within a couple of hours, I was throwing up...we had to call the cruiseline and cancel. I was terribly disappointed because my DH and I had been looking foward to this so long.

The next day, I realized that it was a blessing in disguise that my symptoms appeared when they did because my husband had the same illness the next day and we both would have been sick our entire cruise if the symptoms had appeared just 24 hours later. We got a refund and rescheduled.

Hopefully, you will be feeling much better in 2 or 3 days. I had walking pneumonia last month and after 5 days on medicine, I was back to normal.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Be sure to rest your mind as well..no worries!!!

Oh, I feel so sorry for you! This is why I have been refusing to go out in public for a week since my trip is coming up. Luckily, being retired I can do that. Only you can really make the call. Sometimes the very looked forward to vacation can be good medicine but no doubt you will be exposed to the world of germs on a trip and if your immune system is not up to par it could be a nightmare. And of course if the other thing you have is contagious then all would hope you don%26#39;t expose others. If the doc. okays the trip and you feel up to it, then take your handi-wipes and wipe down everything before you touch it, take your meds., stay hydrated and have fun! Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement. I%26#39;m just going to play the waiting game, then speak (or see) the doctor again before Thursday.

    Mcdonalds

where is the closes mcDonalds to Paris

    Mcdonalds

Probably Monte Carlo would be the closest or i think there is one in the hawaiin market place past PH. Why Mcdonalds there is alot better food in Vegas?

    Mcdonalds

There is a McDonalds near Dennys near Osheas.

If you are on the strip going north, it is right between Harrah%26#39;s and Casino Royale. There is an escalator to go up to it.

    Good Luck!!

    VegasSue

On the east side of the strip, between MGM and PH, there is a McDonald%26#39;s.

    Which show?????

Hello in a bit of a pickle - too much choice that what it is. I am torn on what show to book. I have narrowed it down to:-

Love, Mystere, V, O, La Reve or Zumanity. Which one is the best?

    Which show?????

    Love

    Which show?????

I agree with Lowrance...LOVE is FANTASTIC!!

    Love, O is next.

Hands down, I would pick Love.

Mystere for a traditional CDS show or Love for a non-traditional (emphasis is on the music) CDS show. Either one would be great.

I have seen Love and Mystere. Both were great, but if I had to chose, it would be Love.

I have to toss one in there that you didn%26#39;t mention. Of course, it isn%26#39;t a CDS, but Jersey Boys was wonderful!!

    Good Luck!!

    VegasSue

Saw, Love, Mystere and Phantom last week. DW and my personal favorite was LOVE hands down, easily, not even close but it will be different for others.

The great thing was that we got tickets at the Box Office for a 50%...YES FIFTY percent discount and there is not a bad seat in the house.

I agree with most of the other posters. I%26#39;ve seen O (3xs), Mystere, Ka, and Love (3xs), and the favorite was a hands-down LOVE! Also recommend Jersey Boys (3xs) for a non-Cirque show.

    Love

Thanks very much every one - I booking Love.

How is this place especially the pool. I can%26#39;t find a picture of it

    planet hollywood

If you want a great pool then you%26#39;d be better looking elsewhere. PH is a very nice hotel with a young hip crowd that%26#39;s lots of fun but its pool lets it down badly. It%26#39;s average at best.

    planet hollywood

thanks, maybe that is why I can%26#39;t find a picture.

We really liked PH (got a great rate for a Panorama Suite) great location, nice casino with good CW service - but simple, boring pool; check out this link to see it: destination360.com/north-america/us/nevada/

    las-vegas/planet-hollywood-pool.php

    Ooops. That should be:

    destination360.com/north-america/us/nevada/l…

Yeah, the pools are very basic. I actually don%26#39;t mind the pool area but it doesn%26#39;t compare at all to the Flamingo or Mandalay Bay. When you%26#39;re going out to the pool, there%26#39;s a hot tub by the one on the left on the Strip side. Both pools are on the 6th floor outside. There%26#39;s a little eatery place to get drinks and such from as well.

    Show Bus of the Stars

Has anyone out there been on this double-decker tour? From what I gather it%26#39;s a bus with celebrity impersonators that tours the strip.

It%26#39;s $49 to sit on the top and I was wondering if it is worth it.

    Thanks!

    Show Bus of the Stars

I only vaguely recall two past comments on the Forumns- one saying the only celebrity lookalike on their bus was a Red Skelton dressed bus driver who told jokes they found crude rather than funny- and another complaining that their tour ended very suddenly because there was supposedly ';too much traffic on the Strip'; for it to continue. Both were posted a long time ago and made it sound so lame that I am a bit surprised it is still operating.

We go to Vegas four times a year and I%26#39;ve never noticed it in traffic.. hmmm.I think you should pass.

    Show Bus of the Stars

I saw it go by center strip last Sept. A young Elvis in a gold jacket was on top entertaining. Haven%26#39;t done it myself but $49 sounds kind of high.

I would give it a pass- just by sound of it. Take in a show that has impersonators if that is what you want. You don%26#39;t need a tour of the strip- you just walk and you have your own tour and you can stop in at the casinos your want to.

Thanks. I%26#39;m going to pass on this one.

  • It would take 15 years to stay in every room @MGM Grand

I had a few beverages tonite and thought I%26#39;d do some quick math. Turned out it took me about 10 minutes to figure it out, but if you stayed at the MGM Grand every night, of every year, it would take 15 years to stay in every single room. That%26#39;s phenominal.

It would take 15 years to stay in every room @MGM Grand

And if you also tried this at the First World Hotel in Malaysia (world%26#39;s largest) it would take the best part of another seventeen years out of your life.... :-)

It would take 15 years to stay in every room @MGM Grand

And then another 20 for the Venetian/Palazzo Megacenter.

    52 years huh, that%26#39;s cool.

Are you smoking something in addition to imbibing the beverages?

    Thats impressive.

Good post. I spent a year in El Paso one summer.

Actually you could probably never stay in every room. By the time you made it through your first pass, they would be remodeling and re-configuring and you would have to start all over.

Maybe see if you can handle Bill%26#39;s..... then take on the Big Green Monster!!!

It takes me about 15 years to get out of the MGM every time I walk into it! lol

    vp = Helen Keller

    Lmaoooooo

When MGM opens up ARIA at the end of the year, it will add another 4000 rooms to its already impressive percentage of accomodations in Vegas. It may take another 11 years to stay in all these rooms...

    Spa Treatments in Vegas

I really want to treat myself to a spa massage treatment when I go to Vegas in July. I am curious to know what sort massage tables do they use.

I am a little on the larger size and don%26#39;t fell comfortable laying on a table that is not fixed.

    Whats your favourite spa?

    Spa Treatments in Vegas

Do you mean permanently installed tables??

    Spa Treatments in Vegas

I had a great massage at the Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian two years ago...Canyon Ranch is a nationally acclaimed spa...The massage was excellent...I%26#39;ve also heard good things about the one at Four Seasons...Probably you would do best to pick a spa and call them to be assured you will get what you feel you require....

Vegas spas are used to dealing with people of all shapes and sizes. I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much.

Of the larger spas I like Qua (Caesars), Canyon Ranch (Venetian) and Spa Bellagio. Bathhouse at THEhotel (guests only) is a different kind of experience, being smaller and more minimalist than most Vegas spas. If you have a car then the spa at the Ritz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas is great too.

Clubs that don't play top 40 type music

Does anyone know of any clubs that don%26#39;t play top 40 type music? My inlaws are going to be in Vegas next week and they love to go out dancing but they are more into big band music or stuff that isn%26#39;t considered ';top 40';. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Anyone know how strict they are and what%26#39;s allowed or required? Are nice blue jeans allowed? Button shirts only? This is like a ';chain'; club if that makes sense, kind of like TGI Fridays and Cheesecake Factory are ';chain'; restaurants. The one in NYC was VERY cheesy and aimed at the 35+ crowd, however, I have a feeling that it might not have been that cheesy it was just out jaded 21 y/o eyes, haha. I would venture to say that the dress code is pretty casual.

There is no dress code. Half the people look like they just rolled out of bed.

we were there in may 07, and the garb was casual. unusual gathering of folks....

Sounds like my kinda place; my favorite 80%26#39;s cover band is called Velveeta, LOL!!!

Hey guys heading to Vegas in May and doing the party thing lol so couldnt miss out on a chessy 80%26#39;s place since we love Reflex in the UK - just wondering if it is our sort of 80%26#39;s music ... • Older couple

My wife and I are planning a trip to vegas in June. I have found some amazing rates. 65.00 a night at the mirage (even the weekend). 52.00 a night at mgm grand.

We are both 60 years old. Which of these hotels would be better for an older couple. I dont think we fit in at hotels that have big party scenes at the pools and lounges. Both pools at each hotel look wonderful. Really torn on my decision here. Am I getting a good rate for these 2 places or is this normal for the weekof June 7. Thanks for your replies and help.

    Older couple

60 yrs old? And you are still able to travel? J\K...Mirage is in a great location on the Strip vs MGM which is @ the end of the Strip. For the 13 bucks/night, I would stay @ the Mirage. There used to be more ';kids'; @ the MGM. My vote is Mirage.

    Older couple

elmer, I hope that was scarcasm about traveling at 60.

MGM is just too big. I would go for the Mirage.

vegasvarmint...so you agree that MGM is too big for old peeps, given their limited mobility?

Mirage but Vegas aint for old fartz.

    Hello Eddie,

My view is that you should stay at Mirage. It is more central on the Strip and I think the walk from the lobby to your room may be shorter than at MGM. Last time I checked MGM was the biggest hotel in the world (with 5,005 rooms). It%26#39;s a monster. I think most of the pools (especially on the weekends) get noisy and crowded with 20-somethings. Go early in the morning. It won%26#39;t be too hot and the partyers will be ';sleeping it off';.

I have heard that the new volcano in front of Mirage is quite noisy so if you pick Mirage, ask for a room on the opposite side of the hotel.

    Enjoy!!

No, that%26#39;s not what I meant. I am very mobile but I did not like wasting time walking to and from my room and the parking garage. It%26#39;s a waste of Vegas time. Don%26#39;t worry elmer, you%26#39;ll get there one day and the youngins will make fun of you too!

first of all, 60 is young :)

I think Mirage would be a better fit, MGM is too big, a mile from the front door to the back door.

Mirage has beautiful grounds, love to go snoop out the animal and dolphin habitat in the back.

My pick is the Mirage, better location and they have two great shows, Love and Terry Fator. BLT has pretty good hamburgers and fries too.

Mirage is the one for you of the two. MGM has things for all ages but the pool scene there would turn you off. You may also want to look into Bally%26#39;s as a second choice but that is a awesome deal for the Mirage for any time of the year.

MGM is second or third biggest hotel in the world behind First World in Malaysia and Venetian/Palazzo if you count them as one.

Thanks for posting this. I came across this a few weeks, maybe even months ago. I was curious.

It seems they don%26#39;t update their site very often. Hopefully they have come a long way from when they posted this. How long did it take O%26#39;Sheas%26#39;s? Maybe its harder since a hotel is involved?

O%26#39;Sheas was a Flamingo Satellite and was converted the same day as Flamingo. Their reluctance to convert Bill%26#39;s suggests that they are either too short on cash to do it or that they really are going to blow it up when they can afford it. IP was the same way until they decided to keep it around. They are marketing Bill%26#39;s as a non-TR hotel on their website at least.

    Quick question-Gold Coast Steak Special?

Does the Gold Coast still have the $10.00 (or so) steak special anymore? If so, where is it? I have a food credit there and it was really good when we were there a few years back. Thanks! Kim

I would like to know also.

And is it still a good steak like it used to be?

    LL

    Quick question-Gold Coast Steak Special?

Why not call the GC and ask

    As to if it%26#39;s any ';good'; that is purely subjective. Many think the sirloin steak at EI is ';good';

If you are referring to the steak at the Monterey Room- there is no Monterey room anymore. They closed Arriva and the Cortez Room is now in its place. They now have a TGIF. I don%26#39;t think the steak special exists anymore.

vp03 is right. They closed the Monterrey Room and it is now part of the buffet. They only serve as a coffee shop for graveyard, when the buffet and TGIF are closed. I think this is 1am-7am, but check to make sure.

The Orleans may still have its steak special at The Courtyard Cafe. At least Vegas.com says they do.

Bridgy...I gotta hand it to you. You are always consistent. LOL

Don%26#39;t know all the history but have to say the El Cortez Room ( believe that is the name) which we went to about a year ago, if it is still the same, would highly recommend. Very nice ambiance with old Vegas feel, awesome food at less than half the price of the new Vegas venues. Very good steaks and seafood, decent wine prices, attentive service.. we had an exceptional experience for the price. Thought it was a gem. Hope still the same. Anyone recently? Would like to know if I should still keep it on my list. Based on my past experience I want to go there again!

Reed, You are correct...and I was at Ellis Island for the Steak Special 3 nights ago. It was excellent and was served with a baked potato, green beans and 1 beer or root beer for $6.99 + tax. Maybe it depends how you hit it but the steak was not fatty or grisly.

    Hotel

I%26#39;m looking for a hotel preferably on the strip, or otherwise close to it. Our budget is around 80-100 a night. We are going to Vegas from Marc 27-April 1.

    Thanks

    Hotel

Well, you can find some good rates for your dates on www.smartervegas.com what are you looking for in a hotel? age group? any plans while in Vegas? that could help us here suggest a hotel for you a bit better, alongside those Smarter Vegas rate deals.

    Hotel

We%26#39;re in our 30-40%26#39;s. We were going to stay with a friend, and it turns out she might be moving away from Vegas.

We%26#39;ll mostly want to soak up the vibe, do a little bit of gambling, and see the LOVE show.

Not too picky, as long as it%26#39;s clean, and we don%26#39;t have hookers at the entrance

    smartervegas.com

has anyone booked using smartervegas.com they have good deals wondering just wondering if its a good website to book threw

    smartervegas.com

You don%26#39;t actually book through this site as you would expedia. The site sends you directly to the individual hotels website. So your reservation is direct with the individual hotel.

    smartervegas.com

Do you mean for the hotel deals? If so, yes, the hotel promo codes link directly with the hotel, not smartervegas. I%26#39;ve used the promo codes they list and got a super deal on a hotel room.

I got a code for Le Reve that saved about $40.00. I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s still available. It%26#39;s a good resource.

    Bellagio-refillable coffee mugs

Please can someone explain the deal on the refillable mugs, can they be soda refills or just coffee? also how much approx. are they? thanksx.

    Bellagio-refillable coffee mugs

    Hi 1yellowbelly,

The Mugs are great value as they are 6-00 dollars or thereabouts and are refillable at the coffee shops near the pool for your whole trip and future trips. Have a good time on holiday.Great hotel

    Steve

    Bellagio-refillable coffee mugs

Are there other hotels in Vegas that do this? I am staying at the Mirage and my parents are staying at the Luxor.

You can get soda refills, not just coffee.

They have been doing this at the DisneyWorld resorts for years. Not a bad deal if you don%26#39;t mind taking your cup with you everywhere.

The mug is either $5.95 or $6.95, as far as I know Bellagio is the only MGM Mirage property that does this. The mug can be refilled in 4 places in Bellagio.....the gelato shop or Palio (take a right when you leave the elevator banks and both are just a few steps away), Snax in the Casino and I%26#39;m not sure what the 4th place is, lol. Could be Jean Phillipe%26#39;s though in the Spa Tower area. You can bring the mug with you on any subsequent trips you make. You can have coffee, tea or soft drinks, might be able to get juice as well. It%26#39;s a great bargain. My mug is going to be doing its 4th visit to Vegas at the end of March!

Don%26#39;t mind taking mine with me at all. It%26#39;s been to Vegas almost as many times as I have. It%26#39;s doesn%26#39;t take up any room because I pack small items in it.

    How big is it?

Sounds like a nice souvenir too.

    Thanks.

another question: the places that you refill the mug --- what are their hours?

Its about 12 oz. and doesn%26#39;t have a handle. You can refill it all day long.

There doesn%26#39;t seem to be an upgrade charge for a corner ';P'; room. Does anyone know if they are only king beds or do any have 2 doubles. Also, are they red or blue rooms? The blue rooms seem to be a little easier on the eyes (carpet not so bold)~ but are the beds okay since they are not renovated yet? Thanks ....

    Mostly Off Strip TR

Well, I am not a master at the TR but feel that I owe the gang here something for all their time, input, and interest, it the Las Vegas. We have spent a good deal of time in LV and have just purchased our second home in the area. Our goal for this trip was to do the final walk through and close on the home. It is to be a second home for now and is in the Green Valley area which is really Henderson and not LV. My report might be boring for you thrill seekers but I hope someone may find something they can use for their next trip.

We flew out of Rochester MN on 2/23 and we were suppose to leave at 9pm but do to the need for a plane change due to mechanical issues we left at 10:30 pm. The flight was smooth and restful. We used Avis for our rental and received a Caddy for our “full size” car. We rented from 2/23-2/27 and the total was $123. That was a wonderful deal for the upgraded car.

We stayed at our timeshare HGVC near the Las Vegas Hilton so we stopped at Von’s for spring water, fresh fruit, juice, cream, and bagels for our mornings. I always pack our fav coffee. We brought only carry-on bags so we quickly unpacked and headed to Bootlegger’s Bistro for some appies and a glass of wine. We were tired so we headed back to the room for a good nights sleep. I had a cold and hoped to actually rest a little on this trip too!

    2/24

We spent the next morning doing a walk through of the property with our realtor and the listing realtor. We took tons of pictures since we are going to rent it to someone for the time being. We explored the neighborhood and ended with lunch at Revere Country Club. I loved the view from the Country Club as it has a wonderful view of the strip with wall to wall glass windows. It’s part of our community at Sun City Anthem and I am sure we will dine there often. The food and wine was very good.

We left Sun City and headed over to South Point. We played BJ but the casino kicked our butts. We rested back in the room and took stock of the day and decided to have dinner at Carluccio’s near UNLV. We had a gift certificate for $50 so decided to use it. This is the restaurant designed by and formerly owned by Liberace. It is just behind his museum. You either love it or hate it I guess. I know some people dislike the red sauces but I love their chicken marsala. Husband had shrimp alfedo and I had my fav. We had the calamari appy and for desert he had lemon sorbet and I had the chocolate ice cream swirled with raspberry sobert and dipped in dark chocolate. With two ice teas the bill was $54 plus tip.

The place has a kitsch vibe with just plan gaudy décor but that is part of the charm for us. If you go, stick your head into the area beyond the bar, which is a second bar. That bar look like a piano and the keyboard is what you belly up to. Everything else is white accents including seventies style sleek white barstools. In the corner is a beautiful ornate piano that is used to entertain patrons on certain nights.

Signing paperwork and turning over our money today at 11 am. We go to EI for a proper breakfast at Husbands request. We were seated right away but we wait about 15 minutes for the waitress to take our order. It’s breakfast time but I get the steak special and husband gets country fried steak and eggs.

We waited for 50 minutes for our order. It was good but boy the service was super slow. When we got the check I noticed that I had been charged for my soft drink. In the past I would order a beer, root beer, or diet soda and any option was included. I brought it to the attention of the waitress and she said that it was no longer allowed. Beer or Root Beer only and she stated that some had been fired for substituting. I also asked the hostess and it is true that the policy of no substitutes is strictly enforced and she went on to say that also strictly enforced is that you can not use any two for one coupons on any specials on the daily board or the steak special.

We drove to Henderson and concluded our business and had lunch at China Spice at GVR. We played some BJ and ended up about $250 between the two of us.

More time to rest for puny little me. At about 10pm we went out to Terribles so husband could play video poker and I played some Zorro. We played until about 1 am and husband hit a couple of four of a kinds and I hit a minor jackpot. We decided on a late night snack and headed up to the café. Husband had a breakfast with toast, ham, eggs, and potatoes, for $3.99. I thought I would have something small and had the biscuit and gravy plate also $3.99. Holy Cow! My biscuit was the size of a dinner plate. It was weird, not bad just weird. The gravy was creamed chipped beef and I expected sausage gravy. It was fine, just different. I also noticed that the have a proper “English Breakfast” on their menu if anyone out there is looking for their morning fix of baked beans. They also have a decent looking Moco Loco that I will try next time.

    End of the day sigh.

    2/26

Sleeping in and feeling a little bit better so after coffee and fruit in the room we head out to look at the new M resort form the outside. Grand opening is Sunday and I really wish we could see inside but it not going to happen this trip. It looks like it is going to cater to locals with a focus on value. The place still will feature good restaurant choices but they say that there will be no $12 martinis. It looks like it will be very attractive and comfortable. It will feature an outdoor concert venue that promises to be very busy this summer.

We decide that we are going downtown for a while so we valet at Triple George Grill since we plan on ending up there for lunch. After parking we walk through the old neon and to the Fitz. I played some dollar slots and lost quickly so moved to the pennies. I lucked out and hit a small “mini” progressive and won back what I had lost. Husband wasn’t so lucky so he wanted to go to the Queen’s. He hit his luck there at BJ and walked away up a couple of hundred dollars.

We head to Triple George and Husband has the Caesar salad and salmon. I have the crab Louie and cup of clam chowder. With the warm basket of sourdough I hardly had room to share the chocolate peanut butter cheese cake I shared with DH. We had only iced tea to drink and the tab before tip was $52. You can really have a good lunch here for much less money if you stick to the $10 lunch menu. I really like it here but it’s more everyday LV than tourist LV since they do a great business from the nearby court house. We have even seen Oscar in there a couple of times.

We go back to the room so I can get my strength back.

Since it’s our last night we decide to see a show. Husband wanted to see Steve Wyrick since he saw him on David Letterman, so we head out for the 9pm show at PH. We have a big slushy at Fat Tuesday before the show and that was my first slushy in four days! I must be slipping!!

We enjoyed the show and now I would recommend this show for people looking for a kid friendly show. He uses a child for a portion of the show and he is pretty PG.

We played for a while at PH with no luck at BJ or slots. We head for Palms and I hit a small progressive on a super sevens machine and walk away with $400. Husband isn’t doing so well so he wants to go to Gold Coast. We separate and I play Money Train Monopoly and he plays Life of Luxury. I am up $90 and he calls my cell phone to say “let’s go I just hit a ruby for $478”. I cashed out, cash it in, and we leave.

We only won small amounts and lost almost as much as we won. We paid for everything with cash, and left LV with a $160 less than what we brought to town.

    2/27

We slept in since our flight was not until 3pm. We lunched at our Casa Don Juan near downtown and headed for the airport.

The flight home was smooth and we took a nice nap on the way home. I came home feeling much better than I did when I left. This might have to become my new method of recovering from colds or flu!

No fancy gourmet meals, not much time on the strip, no big shows but still a very enjoyable time.

Now to start planning for a return trip in May!

Thanks to anyone who waded through the details.

Hey there vegastaco!! I really think we are going to like it there. The house has a BBQ grill stub for gas but we both know that it will NEVER be used!

    Big Green Eggers unite!

I enjoyed your report very much. Maybe it is because my husband and I like to stay off strip. We love staying, playing and eating at GVR. I%26#39;ll be trying the M out for a night at the end of March, if I like it I think we%26#39;ll stay there when in town at the end of May.

Thank you for taking the time to do a TR!

Great TR 3.99 for a good breakfast that will get you going.

    gabby,

You will get to visit M before our May trip. I will be watch the forum for your reviews!

    It%26#39;s good to know that some people know about the off strip places to play. :-%26gt;

nice report ShrinkGirl, I will be spending a night at the M resort in early March.

Glad to hear you got your new house.

    Regarding the M Resort:

I have looked at their menus and their drinks are around 8.50 each , now the meals are expensive, even to this So Cal native.

Looks like it will be either the 24 hr cafe or maybe I can bribe Dad to drive me down to South Point for Prime Rib.

I will also take a side trip to GVR and hopefully South Point.

Glad to see you returned healthier than when you left- and with a house no less! Sounds like a great trip to me-a confirmed off-strip gambler, eater and hotel stay-er! Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us.

Looking forward to your May TR already- the one where you win all that money, right? ;-).

Hey Shrinky...glad to see you made it home safely, and thanks for the report :)

I am already visioning a trip where you and taco cohost a BBQ for us! Whoo Hoo!!!!

Thanks for the comments OldiesGuy, Tia, vp03, and Ducky!

    Tia,

I read the comments the owner made about the dining at M and he was very focused on value. I then saw that prime rib was about $46 on the menu so I am thinking that it must be relative to the most upscale options on the strip.

    I%26#39;m hoping we all know soon. :-%26gt;

    Ducky,

    We can do it!

    vp03,

I like a more laid back off the strip trip these days. I can always find someting that makes me smile.

    OldiesGuy,

If you try that biscuit thing at Terrible%26#39;s plan on staying awhile. LOL

    slots--what do u think

Do you think when playing slots amount of bet being equal you are better off betting more coins per line and not playing all the lines????

    slots--what do u think

no or yes. The way I look at it, it%26#39;s random so you could win or not.

    slots--what do u think

No. I believe most slots you have to bet all the lines in order to activate the bonus round. I mainly play for the fun of the bonus!!

Depends on the machine. Some will activate bonus round without max coins. Have to look very, very carefully about this. Others will only activate bonus round with max coins. Silly to play less than max coins if only activates bonus with max coins. Example of this is WOF. No sense playing one or two coins since will never get you anything. But some of the video slots can accumulate pretty good payouts with less than max. Sure others can give better details on this. Hope they do.

the random number generator varies even between bets. So if you were playing 3 credits and then went two 2 credits and hit a big payout that doesnt mean if you were playing 3 coins that same combination would have come out

I think slots are an excellent way to dispose of small change and bills!

I can%26#39;t imagine there%26#39;s anything more than sheer random luck to winning..In fact, with all the buttons, I never knew what was going on %26#39;win or lose%26#39;....

Perhaps betting more than the minimum is a good way to start..or putting in multiples of the required coinage to start...

    Perhaps newer machines are looser..

Perhaps it takes the birthday fairy loosening up one of the newer machines at Encore for this lady to win a birthday gift of $53..

And when she wins, she walks :%26gt;).....

Okay, I know all you ';random'; people are going to say it was just a coincidence, but when I was there a few weeks ago I%26#39;d say 3 out of 4 of my bonus rounds were triggered as I dropped down from say 4 credits to 2, or 3 to 2. I never was able to trigger anything at the higher # of coins, but just as soon as I dropped back down - wham. Has anyone else experienced this?

You are best off betting all the lines instead of betting fewer with more coins. People miss so many wins doing the latter.

If it is not necessary to play all lines, I often play 20 lines vs 30 lines on a Ball of Fire. I hit a $10 and a $20 bonus only risking 20 cents a spin.

My favorites are 9 line 3 reel IGT slots..Triple Star, Triple Diamond, Double Triple Cherry, etc.

I like to experiment at the local casino. My son-in-law is blind so he only knows when he wins, not what he could have won playing all 9 lines. I have him play 5 lines 2 credits while I play 9 line 1 credit. We play for hours side by side. He gets bigger hits, I get more hits. At the end of the session, we both average $8-10 an hour losses offset by any near jackpot wins.

These are my observations that I make while low rolling waiting for my friends to play out 8 hour sessions.

Slots are fun. They are more fun for me if I can play longer and keep my expected losses low.

transportation shuttles from airport to your hotel?

Is there such a thing in that? I heard that taking a cab can cost a lot of money especially if you get stuck in traffic. Is there a company that you can use? And how much is it usually?

transportation shuttles from airport to your hotel?

If you have more than one person the shuttles usually cost more than a cab, plus you take them with other people and stop along the way.

I don%26#39;t know what alot of money is to you, but $20 is not alot to me and that is all it takes to get you to pretty much any strip property. Id pay alot more than that to avoid the shuttles.

transportation shuttles from airport to your hotel?

    http://www.mccarran.com/03_Shuttles_01.asp

To follow on from GoodBeer%26#39;s post, shuttles cost around $6-7 per person. They can be very time consuming as you have to wait for a bus to fill and then possibly drop off at several hotels before yours. A horrible waste of your valuble Vegas time in my opinion. The last thing a cab driver wants is to get stuck in traffic. He%26#39;ll know of potential problems and avoid them. A cab is the way to go unless perhaps you%26#39;re solo, are on a very tight budget and have lots of time you don%26#39;t mind wasting.

Cab it you will be glad you did.

Unless you are willing to chance seeing the backs of a lot of hotels as you drop other passengers off and/or wait while the shuttle fills up at the airport, you should take a cab. It is faster and it may be cheaper than taking the shuttle. On the way back to the airport there have been reports that the shuttles were either late or didn%26#39;t show up at all. The cab line may seem long but it moves quickly.

Thank you for the advice, I will definately look into the pro%26#39;s and cons before we leave to go. We still have sometime to decide!!

Definately don%26#39;t use the shuttle for your return BACK to the airport. The shuttle buses are notorious for saying they%26#39;ll pick you up to return to the airport and never show up. Take a taxi.

What is the best Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas

We have never been to a Cirque show before, but from looking at the online trailers, I think that we have trimmed our list to KA, Mystere, and O. I would say that we are looking for more of the acrobatics and stunts then the other stuff. We would love any recommendations that you have. Can%26#39;t wait for the show.

What is the best Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas

Ahh, this is a loaded question. It all depends on your likes and dislikes. Each show has its appeal to me. My favorite is not really an official CDS show but one which Dragone oversees...Le Reve at the Wynn. It%26#39;s amazing. The most fun show for us is Love. That%26#39;s probably because the Beatles were going strong when I was in high school...showing age here...lol.

What is the best Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas

chachachio gave an excellent response. It%26#39;s true that all theater is subjective, but Cirque shows seem to really breed dissent.

When I first saw the Cirque-like show Le Reve, it was my favorite. I saw it again, and didn%26#39;t much like it. Go figure!

Of true Cirque shows, KA is my favorite, followed by O, Mystere, and Love. I haven%26#39;t seen Zumanity. Mystere is probably safest in the sense that fewer people seem to hate it than other Cirque shows. Love is the least like a typical Cirque show; whether you like it probably depends on your opinion of The Beatles.

    Beatles Love.

    LL

I, too, like LOVE best, but if you%26#39;ve never seen a Cirque show, you might want to see Mystere or O. They are all great.

We just saw KA and really liked it. Paid for the ';cheap'; ($66) seats and they were great! (Wouldn%26#39;t want to sit any closer!)

Also have seen Mystere. That show was great too. If it%26#39;s your first Cirque show - find the times/days/location and price that suits you the best (most show have a early and late seating and are ';dark'; - don%26#39;t perform several days each week.)

    Have fun.

If you are looking more for acrobatics and stunts then Mystere would be your best bet. I think it has the most WOW moments of all the shows. Love is also fantastic but the emphasis is on the music rather than the acrobatic feats (althogh they are there). I didn%26#39;t think O was as good as Love or Mystere. I didn%26#39;t like Ka at all- the only thing it had going for it was the stage IMHO.

I have seen Mystere and Ka and will be seeing Love in three weeks. So far Ka has been my favorite. I am really looking forward to seeing Love as I have heard so many have enjoyed it.

  • Unused show tickets

Do you guys know of any type of service in LV that buys show tickets from private parties? I have 2 Le Reve tickets for next Friday that I can%26#39;t use, due to a sick family member. Or am I better off just posting on craigslist?

    Unused show tickets

Or you could list them on ebay.

    Unused show tickets

i would contact the wynn sometimes they will help you out if ot i would go craigs i hope your family member gets well soon!

One time we couldn%26#39;t get to Las Vegas on the day of the show because of the weather. The hotel refunded the tickets. Sometimes even if they say ';nonrefundable,'; you can refund them if it%26#39;s an emergency. Sometimes you can%26#39;t. It%26#39;s worth a call to the Wynn. You can usually sell tickets on ebay. I%26#39;ve bought some there when the shows are sold out.

    Hope everything turns out OK.

Try ebay and craigslist i%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get them sold pretty quickly for the right price.

  • Jersey Boys Half-Price tickets available?

Do the Tix4tnoght locations ever have reduced price tickets for Jersey Boys? We%26#39;ll be there Jan. 18-21, and I really want to see it. We%26#39;ll pursue the $40 off offer if tickets aren%26#39;t ever available through the outlets. Thanks.

    Jersey Boys Half-Price tickets available?

I%26#39;ll be there around then too and I didn%26#39;t chance it.I bought the free upgraded ticket to front orchestra. I%26#39;ve been checking the ';sneak peak'; and I haven%26#39;t see Jersey Boys all month. Besides, if they were at the 1/2 price tik place, they wouldn%26#39;t be half price they%26#39;d be discounted maybe 20-40% off. The bestofvegas.com deal is the best thing going right now.

    Jersey Boys Half-Price tickets available?

Can someone provide more info about the $40 off tickets? I am going this weekend and am interested in seeing the show.

www.bestofvegas.com seems to be down I think

Nevermind - the site is back up - looks like a pretty decent deal. I%26#39;m still thinking about taking my chances when I get there, since my heart isn%26#39;t necessarily set on seeing a particular show.

Wierd. Something is wrong with there sight. Keep trying, it%26#39;ll come back online. They are offering front orchestra tickets for the price of rear orchestra. You can also use code EPOJANY to get a great package at the Palazzo with discount tickets and a rate of only $139/nt or the EVOJANY code for $119 a night at the Venetian with discount tickets and a bunch of other stuff. Here%26#39;s a link: www.venetian.com/Pages.aspx…

    Hill,

Jersey Boys is fairly a new show (started Spring 2008, I think), it is also extremely popular. Ive never seen mentioned that anyone found 1/2 price tix for that show, doubtful it will be for awhile.

We saw Jersey Boys during our October Trip, and loved it! I bought tix for Mamma Mia I know from

    http://shows.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-shows/

I cant recall if www.travelzoo.com had discount tix for Jersey Boys or not, perhaps I bought from the www.palazzolasvegas.com site? However, keep checking travelzoo often, you just never know which shows they will have discount tickets for, and btw, hope You do acquire tickets. Jersey boys was worth the price, we will see it again for sure!

We are going in May. Looking to see 2 shows and Jersey Boys is one of them. My question, is it necessary to spend over $100 per ticket. I could spend the $62.00 and sit in Lower Mezzanine. Are these good seats or do I go for the extra money?

    Bump please

    why bump?

no one knows what will be available at tix4tonite on any given day - you must go in person and find out.

Possibly someone else has some information about Jersey Boys tickets that was not related to the 1/2 price places.

    Grrr.... Bridge.

I think if you can get the lower mezzanine for $62 go for it. It%26#39;s a musical, those seats will be fine.enjoy!

    gnocchis anyone?

We are leaving for LV on Easter Sunday, as a second generation Sicilian this has my mother dismayed that wife and I will be missing her Italian feast. This is a 20th anniversary trip and the wifes biggest concern is not having homemade gnocchis and raviolis for Easter. Any recommendations on authentic Italian food (excluding CDA, time constraints) would be fantastic. As stubborn Sicilians we rarely dine at Italian restaurants (nobody can cook like mom, just ask her, insert stronger language here). One prerequesite, is the sauce it must be red.

Don%26#39;t tell mom, if she knew we were going to pay for a Italian dinner on Easter Sunday we would be excommunicated from the family, church, state etc etc LOL. I think she is lighting a candle for my indescretions as we speak.

    gnocchis anyone?

My husband is Sicilian (both his mother and father born in Sicily, in the village of Malily). Gnocchi was not served in his house at Easter, but rather rabbit. (I know, kinda weird, cooking the Easter bunny for the holiday!) Their neighbor, from Rome, made gnocchis and they were superb.

The best gnocchi we have had in Vegas has been at Bartolotta%26#39;s in Wynn. It%26#39;s an appetizer plate with a creamy tomato sauce and is superb. They also make a fabulous ravioli. Can%26#39;t vouch for any of the seafood dishes as we are vegetarians but I would say you can%26#39;t go wrong there.

(And I know what you mean about getting Italian food out; my in-laws NEVER went to an Italian restaurant! The choice for going out to dinner was Chinese food!)

    gnocchis anyone?

Take a look at Martorano%26#39;s in the Rio - your basic red gravy place tarted up with R%26amp;B music:

On the nicer end you can%26#39;t go wrong with:

Penazzi at Harrahs lists Gnocchi with Bolognese Sauce as their house specialty. It%26#39;s a nice restaurant , but I%26#39;ve never tried the gnocchi, They have their menu on line , but the first several pages are the wine list , so flip through the first pages to get to food choices.

Forgot to suggest Maggiano%26#39;s in Fashion Show Mall...definitely lower price than Bartolotta%26#39;s. It%26#39;s a chain but the gnocchi were great (my husband remembers it well). Get 1/2 order!!!

We have tie original Martorano%26#39;s down here in Fort Lauderdale and it is amazing!!

I am Italian also and his ';Sunday Sauce'; tastes just like the sauce my grandmother made.

This is not a red-checkered tablecloth type of place though. The Fort Lauderdale restaurant is upscale with a trendy, hip vibe to it.

We are going to LV in a few weeks and intend to try out the new location.

I%26#39;ll let you know if they have gnocchi or ravioli on the menu!

Great suggestions, THANKS Will definately decide between Penazzi and Bartolotta%26#39;s.

When Mom was growing up in Sicily, hard boiled eggs were always added to the sauce, this would be filler because they couldn%26#39;t afford meat. According to her this was common place, and we still practice this today, we all pass on the sausage, brougious (sp), meatballs and all fight for the hard boiled eggs! I can%26#39;t wait to ask the waiter if he could place a few boiled eggs in the sauce prior to service.

    Thanks again all!!

Please let us know where you go in the end and how it was! Or, you could try one of the suggested restaurants each day of your stay, lol! ;-)

Boy, I haven%26#39;t thought about the hard-boiled eggs in the sauce for YEARS! My m-i-l did that too...I sure miss her!

You have a deal Gabby! I%26#39;ll eat at all the Italian restaurants, however you must sample all the M%26#39;s tastings!!!

Can never deceive Mom, so I told her of our plans and oh my the tongue lashing I received was similar to when I stole a candy bar at the local conveniant store some 35 years ago. Gotta love Mom

Sport, the hard boiled eggs are the absolute best. don%26#39;t know why we as a family absolutely abhor hard boiled eggs but when it comes to eggs and pasta sauce the fight insues. And Mom always insures for her pleasure no doubt, there is always one less egg then syblings present.
