Hi all... Not sure if this topic has ever been approached from this angle. I%26#39;m trying to get an idea of where to spend my time (and money!) when I get the urge to try my luck. Mainly going to play slots, blackjack, poker, maybe craps. So I thought I%26#39;d ask for your feedback. Please name your top 1 or 2 casinos for each category, as an overall assessment of fun, good odds, generous cocktails, level of competition (poker), etc.
Blackjack?
Slots?
Craps?
Poker?
Also, who gets your vote for best comps?
Thanks for voting!
Gambling
There are too many varriables.
It really depends on your personal preferences.
I love to play craps at Casino Royale. $3 minimum bets with 100x odds -- that%26#39;s great. Add the freak show that%26#39;s all around you with some friendly service and a fun, young crowd and I have a blast.
Other people don%26#39;t like the freak show. They think that the place is too dirty, smelly %26amp; depressing. I think that dirty, smelly and depressing are essential to the charm of the place.
I%26#39;d play more at Wynn or the Venetian. These places are brighter and classier. The people are beatutiful and stylish. These places can have a fun vibe but I don%26#39;t like the higher table mins.
Personal preference. You have to find the casinos that fit your budget and decide which ones you like the best.
Odds don%26#39;t varry much on the strip. Just stay away from the 6:5 blackjack.
Gambling
Agreed, and 6:5 blackjack seems rampant right now.
I think a lot of people agree that O%26#39;sheas is a good bet for a fun gambling environment. They are pretty generous with drinks, and the dealers are all nice and fun.
O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s is a terrible bet in all meanings of the word. All 6/5 blackjack. Find somewhere, anywhere, else.
I like to divide games into 3 categories:
1) Games of pure luck - craps, slots, roulette. In these, you can%26#39;t change your likelihood of winning by making decisions, but you can choose bets with smaller house advantage. My favorite is craps with single or double odds, maybe a come bet with odds if I%26#39;m winning. Craps is such a party game, cheering the shooter - much more participation than BJ, slots, roulette.
2) Games with house advantage and decision making - blackjack, let it ride, most other table games. You can%26#39;t expect to win over the long run, but your decision making skills do count. Good decisions you lose slower, bad decisions you lose (much) faster. Don%26#39;t split face cards in BJ. I avoid these games especially BJ because if I%26#39;m drinking I forget the strategy tables (which are a pain to memorize, and don%26#39;t win in the long run anyway).
3) Games without house advantage, more emphasis on skill - poker, video poker (sometimes). In poker, you%26#39;re not playing the house although they do take a rake. As long as you%26#39;re consistently better than that drunken starlet, you should win in the long run. Woe be you if you%26#39;re the drunk one. Only certain video poker games have a positive expectation played with optimal strategy - see the wizard of odds. I%26#39;ve never played such a game, I expect they%26#39;re very hard to find. I%26#39;m getting ready to try poker for the 1st time in a couple of weeks at the MGM.
oops - I misread the question - sorry. I%26#39;ll post anyway, wouldn%26#39;t mind feedback on my opinion above.
I%26#39;ve only been to Caesar%26#39;s in vegas before, years ago, played BJ, it was OK.
allvegaspoker rates all the poker sites.
Thanks Captain. I figure I%26#39;ll do the skill games (poker, BJ) while the wife shops and spa%26#39;s during the day - aka before I start drinking heavily (LOL). Save the craps and slots for the night time party scene.
Any recommendations for ';loose slots'; (if such a thing really exists) or some liberal BJ rules? I love that poker website... will have to try some of those rooms...
Thanks again!
anders, liberal bj rules are a function of table limits. For $25 a hand you will find ok games many places except HET props. $15 even at some MGM-Mirage places (Mirage, MB, MGM, Luxor and MC).
I am going to Vegas in two weeks and I am basically a craps only player. It has the only even money bet in the whole casino. I like to play at a place called Casino Royale. It is right between the Venetian and Harrah%26#39;s right on the strip. It offers 100X odds on line and come bets. Also, it usually has $3 minimum bets available in case Lady Luck has decided to take some time off. Good luck.
