We will be visiting Vegas in April but we are not sure of the dates so we will have to book hotels when we arrive after visiting Death Valley. Is there a sort of ';clearing house'; for hotel rooms where we could stop on the way in to Vegas to find late bargains.

There is no clearing house type thing for rooms in Vegas. Do NOT arrive in Vegas without a room, it would be a very costly mistake to do so. If you have a lot of money and it doesn%26#39;t bother you paying over the top, then you%26#39;ll be ok. Otherwise, you will not be ok and you might have to go to a lot of hotels in order to find a room. Vegas is one place you need to book a room ahead of time.

I have a suggestion. You don%26#39;t say how many days you want to stay or what type of hotel you are looking for, but I%26#39;ll assume you want to be on the strip for 3 nites, and you have an approximate idea of dates.
Make one reservation for April 4th-6th at MGM. Then make one at Flamingo for the 5th-7th, and maybe one at PH for the 6th-8th and if you think necessarry one at TI for 7th-9th.
Most LV hotels offer cancellation without penalty within 48 hours (make sure you check this when making reservations), so once you are sure of the dates you cancel all the un-needed reservations. This way you will have decent rates locked in and not have to worry about finding a place last minute.
We had to take a quick trip to LV for my DH%26#39;s work one time and booked the night before and were still able to find decent rates. I would do that rather than going to Vegas and then looking. You will pay alot more and it would be such a hassle. You don%26#39;t want to spend your time in Vegas looking for a hotel room.
I definitely agree with Gabby. After a Hotwire reservation debacle, I ended up walking the strip looking for a room. That was a costly experience since I ended up booking a room at full rate.
