Red Rock or Valley of Fire?

Hi

We are going to rent a car for at least one day of our Vegas trip, and I was just wondering that if you had to choose, which would be the better destination for hiking and sight seeing? We may just decide to do both over two days.

Red Rock or Valley of Fire?

Hiking...Valley of Fire

If you are going to be here soon, it should be beautiful in the next month or so when the cactus starts to bloom.

Red Rock or Valley of Fire?

Valley of fire much much better way to spend tyour time

we took a tour of Red Rock Canyon back in Feb. a couple yrs. ago, and we thought it was beautiful, haven%26#39;t been to VOF, so can%26#39;t help you there, but if you are renting a car, you might could do both.

Thanks for the replies everyone. And Cynda great tip. My GF will love the blooming cactus and we will be there in the first half of april!

Definitely Valley of Fire. We%26#39;ve been to Red Rock and Valley of Fire and we think Valley of Fire has so much more exploring and it%26#39;s better than Red Rock. Don%26#39;t get me wrong, Red Rock was pretty, we just think Valley of Fire was better. We%26#39;re actually going back to Valley of Fire this year.

We%26#39;ve also been to both and like Red Rock if we want to just enjoy an afternoon then maybe visit the Red Rock Casino for dinner while we%26#39;re in the area.

For a day trip, definately VOF is a much larger and more beautiful (in my opinion) area.

promark- we just visited Valley of Fire last Friday, by rental car. If you would like to read about our visit, just go to my trip report:

If you have any questions about anything, just post them as a reply to my trip report and I will try and help you out!

I have been to both many, many times. There really is not comparison. Red Rock is very nice with a 13 mile loop you drive on with pull off points so you can get out of the car. They do have hiking trails.

VOF is absolutely stunning. You will feel like you are in another world. The sandstone formations are spectacular. It is so much bigger and so much better than RRC. You can just drive from formation to formation but you should hike on some of its trails to completely enjoy its beauty. Bring plenty of water, wear closed shoes (some areas are sandy)and wear a hat and sunglasses. You can even bring food and have a picnic there. Many like to combine it with a trip to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Lake Mead has a relaxing and informative paddle boat cruise that is very nice.

You can do both in the same day but once you see VOF RRC is probably going to be a disappointment.

I strongly disagree with cynda if your main object is hiking. Both have great hiking trails but some of the ones at RRC are much longer and much more difficult than the ones at VOF.

Awesome information. Thanks everyone for your time and suggestions! Its really appreciated.
