Golf suggestions for Scratch golfer? Where to play

Hi. I wondered if anyone could suggest a couple of courses my son could play while we are out there for spring break. I asked him what his handicap is since after reading some of the other posts, it seems to matter as far as suggestions? He said scratch or point something or other equiv. to a 1? I have no idea what that means. I just know he needs to get in some practice because golf season starts here after we get back and we have alot of snow still on the ground here in MI. Just wondered if there are any places with good junior rates.

If he qualifies for a Jr rate I would assume he is in high school or younger? You must have college golf coaches knocking down your door to offer him scholarships if he is a scratch golfer?

He is 17 and has been on the Varsity team since trying out as a freshman. This is his second year as team Captain but he is actually going to attend U of M in the fall. Believe it or not, he is in the majority around here. He has a couple of friends that are actually better golfers. You should attend an AJGA tourney one time. These are SERIOUS kids whose parents have unlimited funds. We cannot afford to fly him around the country to various tournaments. Some of the kids he has played with have flown in from other countries to play. Alot of people take their kids out of the local high school and send them to Florida and enroll them in the golf schools down there where they attend reg. classes plus receive golf instruction for about $50,000 a year. How crazy is that? Hey, I guess if we had the big dollars I would do it too. He only plays 2 or 3 bif tournaments in the summer because they are hundreds of dollars a crack plus lodging, meals etc...for the week. He just wants to practice before school golf starts.

SparkysMom, I know what you mean re: the competition and costs for athletics nowadays. Same for basketball and tennis etc. What is your budget per round to pay? And you WILL need a car. I%26#39;ll then give you some ideas.
